Weed carriers get some shine…
0 Comments Published by Wasteland Drifter July 31st, 2005 in Uncategorized. The guardian has a hilarious (although inaccurate) article about entourages.
It’s an entertaining read even if some of it is bollocks. The best bit is where they talk about Gwen Stafani’s entourage; “from my fantasy”, that made my day….
#Some kind of wonderful……………..
0 Comments Published by Wasteland Drifter July 31st, 2005 in Uncategorized.Well usual shit to report really. Still haven’t found a job even though I have been applying left, right and centre. I’m hoping something comes through but I’ve given up any hope of getting anywhere before I go on Holiday on September 10th.
In other news my second taste of the backlash form the recent attacks came yesterday. While I was walking back from Jo’s house someone shouted something out of a car window while I was committing the horrendous crime of walking along the pavement. As I had earphones in I didn’t hear what he said but it wasn’t exactly difficult to lip read. Obviously it is to be expected but it will boil over one day and people will start getting hurt. We’ve never experienced racism in the area where we live really at all for the last eighteen years. I remember the house we had before this and we moved out of there because there was rarely a week went by without a brick coming through our window or someone throwing stuff at us. I’m quite worried things will start going that way again if it’s not kept in check. It isn’t even just against Muslims, it’s against anyone who even looks Asian, and I mean you can’t tell I’m a Muslim just by looking at me, but any Asian person is now becoming a target from ignorant, small minded racists.
perks of working at a TV station
0 Comments Published by Jazzman's Blog 1 July 30th, 2005 in Uncategorized.I’m sitting at the station watching full length previews of NBC’s fall lineup. I just watched the last half hour of E-Ring. Looks interesting. I missed the first half hour so I couldn’t say if it was good or not. Now I’m watching My Name is Earl. Also looks interesting. But I don’t know if it will last. Cool thing about My Name is Earl. It’s a stupid show about karma but they just played the Black Eyed Peas song by the same name.
Another perk of working here– next week, I’m off with the 10! show as we broadcast live from Busch Gardens, PA Dutch Country, Dorney Park, the Moshulu (here in Philly), and Atlantic City. We were supposed to be on a tour bus but as circumstances have it, that’s not happening, at least for Williamsburg. However, I do get to drive the designated Beamer for the show. What is the designated Beamer? An X5 with the show’s logo on it. Woohoo! Broadcast pimpin’. I don’t care if it’s a 6 hour drive to the Gardens. It’s me, the luxury suv, and the open road. Okay, and probably one of the techs from the station. So, I guess no bumpin the hardcore hip-hop cds.

But I cannot for the life of me seem to add a signature to google group postings. A degree in computer science and I’m fooled by google groups….bodes well for getting a job!
So I ventured down to Tower Records - right around the corner from these cats (if you are a sneaker addict & are in NYC, this is a MUST stop by the way) & picked up some Yami Bolo, among other things. This dred has been putting it down for a hot minute…probably since I was a likkle youth of 5 years old. Anyway, here are some mini clips of Mr. Bolo aka The Jamaican Stevie Wonder…probably one of the biggest underrated roots headz out there, ever. Enjoy!

Some ill reads:
“Execs Who Inhale” (Hi Mom!)
Some bad business:
Sizzla - WTF?!
2nd bad biz: If you are a dj & you support Olivia’s new track “Twist It” or whatever with Lloyd Banks - you should have cement shoes & dumped into the Atlantic out near Bermuda! This is going to be an on-going thing here at Irie Member…“THE MOTHA TRUCKA TRACK OF THE WEEK” & this is numero uno.
Also, I want to give a big shout to my dawg - naa really, thats my dog (MOTU)

(the move continues…)
in between packing binges the kid’s been writing…my takes on Missy’s The Cookbook (it’s dope), Boom Bap Project’s Reprogram (it’s pretty good) and Cook Coke Crack’s All Or Nothing (it’s god awful).
my Slim Thugga review goes up this week…David over at the shrimp pretty much sums it up. “diamonds”…”already platinum”…and the highlight of the fucking album, “this is my life.”
I realized what I like so much about Slim Thug…dude’s the least threatening rapper out there. but in a good way. not non-threatening like Will Smith or Bow Wow (non-threatning because they’re just soft) or like MOP or Beanie*** (non-threatening because they’re too bent on violence to be believed). Slim is non-threatening because that’s his personality. he’s not a scary dude. he’s slick but not cocky. he’s strapped but not irrational. he’s not contradictory, with 12 tracks about coke and 1 about how he really wishes his neighborhood was a nicer place. he’s just a dude who got his on the mic. unlike most rappers, he’s not larger than life. he’s just that dude.

anyways, rap and politics:
It turns out the best place to see the logo is on the DangerDOOM website funnily enough! Again, worth buying for the cover alone…not that this album isn’t going to be fucking crazy anyway.
This is good for a laugh….
0 Comments Published by Wasteland Drifter July 27th, 2005 in Uncategorized.VH1 produced a list of the 50 greatest hip-hop artists.
Big Daddy Kane at 35 and A Tribe Called Quest at 27? No serious hip hop fan would argue that these two are anything but top ten of all time. These lists are always fun as they’re normally compiled by 13 year olds, hence legends such as BDK, ATCQ and Krs/BDP (come on top ten again) being outside of the top ten.
Any top ten that misses out; BDK, Krs/BDP and ATCQ is not a top ten at all. BDK may be the best mc to ever pick up a microphone in hip hop…..scandalous!
The internet is a wonderful invention….

Finally someone has seen a pattern: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4
I know myself that I buy just as much music since I started downloading. It means I can see what I like and buy it, if I download music I like I buy it, if I don’t like it then I delete it.
So the other day I managed to get hold of a track which hadn’t spread around cyberspace completely yet. I was quite happy because it was before everybody started raving about it so I could make my own mind up. The next morning, it was on five blogs and you could google it and download it. Just goes to show how quickly shit spreads.
The track in question was ‘MC Burial” by Nas, where he finally picks the mic up and shoots some warning shots to the obvious adversaries that have been on his case for the last few months. Unfortunately it was ripped from Statik Selectah’s radio show so it has the DJ all over it. Either way, I’m feeling this a lot. It doesn’t have the potency of Ether or the humour for that matter, but he does come correct. Check it out for yourself:
