Wow somebody really doesn’t like it….

Ok I’m not overwhelmed by it but it’s not crap and I have never liked him on the mic, production wise he’s a genuis but dropping lyrics he’s mediocre most of the time. This seems a bit of a harsh review of the album but each to their own I guess. The only real big gripe I have against this review is the bitching about him lifting the Curtis Mayfield loop. Somtimes a loop is best left how it is, if he had chopped it up, sped it up or whatever, people would be claiming he butchered a classic. That loop was perfect how it was and it worked perfectly with the song, if it works so well what’s the point in fucking around with it so it sounds different. Just because you sample something doesn’t mean you have to manipulate the crap out of it.

Man, it’s amazing how much power the Earth holds over us. I really feel for everyone affected by this, mental.
Man i’m too lazy to go downstairs and make some tea……

I’m not a sexist but in recent years it has become the trend that sexism against men is tolerated, whereas any hint of sexism against women is a crime worthy of hanging. So it’s nice that I’m not the only one who heard of this and thought that’s just downright sexist.
Anyway, not a lot else to say. Spent a lot of today lazing around in the park in the lovely sunshine, and then I met Becca in town later for a coffee. I lead a hectic life at the moment…..
Music
I was cleaning my hdd up earlier this morning and so I have a bunch of stuff I came across and thought I might as well upload.
First and foremost, the new Blackalicious joint:
Blackalicious - You Move (Ft Life Savas)
I’ve been listening to a lot of Gab and Blackalicious recently so I’m feeling this right now. This I believe is off the upcoming album.
Next up, that John Legend remix with Lauryn Hill doing the rounds and getting people buzzing at the moment. To be honest I can take it or leave it, I’m not that bothered by it:
interesting how the news chooses to cover, well, news.
(propers to my man urbanhack for spotting this out)
“Two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katrina came through the area in New Orleans, Louisiana”

A young man walks through chest deep flood water after looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005. Flood waters continue to rise in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina did extensive damage when it made landfall on Monday.

“One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like a infantile retard.”

this may be old news to people but i just found it.
there’s a certain brutal simplicity to his style that’s appealing. almost Hemingway-esque. with a touch of extreme violence.

After much messing about in both getting the tickets and getting there I finally arrived at Leeds Festival on Thursday, to be greeted by a bunch of drunk mates burning food on a disposable BBQ.
The line-up this time round wasn’t that great but there were a few people I needed to see, Bloc Party being at the top of the list.
They didn’t disappoint. They were outstanding and a group I’d walk over hot coals to see again. The only problem with the gig was that I had gone too over prepared for bad weather, fully decked out in waterproofs, wellies, etc. and there was no need for it. I was overcome by the heat and felt ill during the set and afterwards as a result.
Also on the Friday we saw Buck 65, who was again absolutely brilliant. I’m not that keen on his new album but that didn’t stop the gig from being on a par with last years performance. He reworks his tracks when performing live so any that you may or may not like end up sounding different and nearly all the time they sound dope.
Charles Whitman’s Children and The Corpse Pimper

Yo, I don’t know if you watched the VMAs last night or if I’m still the only underground head whom still finds these things fascinating, but it was a sight to behold. Hosted by none other than the supreme Corpse Pimper himself (Puff Daddy, that’s right bitch, I ain’t followin’ your directions concerning your name change, from now on I am making it my sacred duty to spread the name Corpse Pimper far and wide), it was a shameful affair to say the least. He trotted out some old footage from the “Juicy” video and fronted like he was conducting an orchestra to Big’s lyrics. Not only that, but the mufuckas didn’t have the balls to play the line “time to get paid, blow up like the world trade”. Sacrilege! The Corpse Pimper’s entrance brought a whole new meaning to the term overboard. In fact, when it comes to excessivity, human powers of hyperbole simply can’t keep up with The Corpse Pimper. He rode in Zeus’ flaming chariot atop the crest of a liquid gold wave while the assembled choirs of Seraphim intoned his new moniker. Women tore the couture from their breasts in Dionysian ecstasy and full-grown men gnashed their teeth in anall-consuming envy.
Felt: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet

i’m so far out of the loop these days. apparently this has been on the market for a while now. if you possess it. i’d like to hear it. so, umm, send me a tape or something.
“One of the unsung heroes of the Rhymesayers Entertainment camp is producer/DJ Ant, or Anthony Davis. Like he’s done with Brother Ali, Ant provides a soulful, smokin’ backdrop for MCs Slug and Murs to roll out their complementary, often comical verses on Felt 2. Aside from Atmosphere, the Living Legends and a recent celebrated matchup with 9th Wonder, some will know Felt from their first tribute record (to Christina Ricci) a few years back. While the content here doesn’t have much to do with Lisa Bonet or any Huxtables, it’s sometimes a tribute to Hall-of-Famers, in spots cribbing lyrics from the Beasties, EPMD, Ice-T and others. Murs and Slug definitely capably live up to their reputations, occasionally overdoing it with adolescent sexual bravado (“Breaker Down Like a Shotgun”), but it’s Ant’s tasteful handiwork that leaves a nearly unrivaled mark in 2005 beat-making.”
This is hilarious!
